According to Sky news sources, Pep Guardiola is looking to reinforce his defence with Tottenham star, Kyle Walker. According to reports, City will approach Walker following the international game between France and England on Tuesday. Guardiola is confident that Walker will join his side and is willing to splash over €50m on the wing-back. If this transfer were to happen, Walker would be the most expensive Englishman in history. Walker would fill the spot of Zabaleta who departed for West Ham last month.
In the past few seasons, Walker has been stellar for the Lilywhites, helping them finish in 3rd and 2nd in the last two seasons. In 33 appearances last season, Walker helped keep 14 clean sheets and also had 72 tackles, making him one of the top defenders in the English Premier League. Walker spoke out about the speculation surrounding him by saying, “Considering where I have come from in Sheffield, it [the price tag] is very flattering. But it’s speculation and I’m here as an England player now. That is the most important thing.” If Walker does leave, current back-up Kieran Trippier would be a strong replacement for him. Manager Mauricio Pochettino is also eyeing Portuguese right-back Ricardo Pereira as a potential replacement.
