On Wednesday, the Gunners completed the 26-year-old Frenchman’s transfer from Olympique Lyon. The deal cost Arsenal €53m and secures the French forward for the next five years. The former Lyon man bagged 37 goals in 45 appearances for his team last season and is considered one of the top strikers in Europe. Spanish giants, Atletico Madrid, were also after the French international’s signature, however their current transfer ban prohibited this deal from happening.
In an interview with the official Arsenal website, Lacazette stated:
“I am of course delighted and very proud too because Arsenal is a legendary club. Throughout my childhood, thanks to Thierry Henry and other French players, I always dreamed of playing for this club so today that dream has been fulfilled,”
“Arsenal is also the club which plays the best football in England, so I really wanted to come here.”
“I want to give 100% in every match. I want to show I am worthy of the shirt. I want to do everything I can to make sure we win titles.”
Arsenal fans are ecstatic over the signing of Lacazette and are looking forward to the upcoming Premier League season. This signing also takes some pressure off of Arsene Wenger who has been under fire for his failure to meet expectations in recent years. Lacazette is Arsenal’s second signing of this transfer window.
